Jubilation Garden (5:35)
Grade 4
by Joseph T. Spaniola
The Jubilation Garden is place of great joy, harmony, peace and prosperity. It is a dynamic space of boundless celebration and of quiet reflection filled with potential. Its diverse inhabitants include the meek and fragile to the bold and hearty of varieties, both local and foreign, from the common to the exotic.
Upon entering one is greeted by a sea of colors, shapes, sizes, textures and fragrances. Excitement abounds on every step of the path through the garden. It is teaming with life. Occasionally you pause awestruck to soak in the abundant wonders of your surroundings. You move forward only to stop and smile as the Sunflowers and Dahlias blissfully dance in the breeze. Further down the meandering path you stop to admire the serene beauty of the Paduak, Dok Champa, and the Grass Orchid. You continue on past Big-Flower Coreopsis, Big-Root Prickly Pear, Purple Coneflower, Blue Wild-Indigo, Cardinal Flower, Cat-Claw Mimosa, Buffalo Grass and so many others of its delightful residents.
Though you pass local and imported flora situated side by side, nothing seems unnatural or foreign. It is a global collection gloriously presented with high plains sensibility. The gardens are a true celebration of diversity and unity, and a triumphant reflection of the community that created it. J.T.S.
